Janet Nieves was born in New York City. During a spring break she visited Puerto Rico; it was then she knew she would live on the west coast of the island. She completed her Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Teaching English as a Second Language at the InterAmerican University of Puerto Rico. She is also a certified Bilingual teacher. For the past 23 years she has taught students of all ages. She currently works at the Specialized Bilingual School Alcides Figueroa in Añasco. She considers today’s teaching environment to be filled with many challenges, which has been her motivation to provide students with learning experiences that will enable them to succeed as professionals. Through the years she has collaborated in the process of mentoring students for various projects and competitions. She believes students need a space to develop their creativity. She looks forward to her students’ collaboration with MAPS for a second year.
