Zombie

Student: Maura M. Vélez Estévez
Grade: 11

I don’t feel alive, but I grow,
I need air cuz I’m suffocating,
but I guess you’ll never know.
It’s like I’m a walking zombie.

Amongst the living,
sometimes I can’t even hear
my own breathing.
It’s funny cuz I hide it,
better than you think.

I’m just like any other,
but all I do is sink.
My thoughts are my enemies,
so I keep them close,

They just remind me how far to go.
I walk and I run
but I get nowhere.
I’m stuck in Infinity,
trying to go somewhere.

It’s black and it’s white,
dull every night.
Maybe it will be bright one day,
so bright
I’ll have to dim the lights.
