The Matter of Life

Fighting,  for what?

Power,  for what?

To satisfy yourself?

People these days don’t know what they really should care about.

Everyone knows your childhood was poor,  hungry and devastating.

But do you remember what actually matters?

You still had a family who loved you.

You worked hard to earn money,

You made a life and a family.

But your money and power went to the top of your head.

Your memories and happiness are dead.

You wanted to control and have power,

But now, who ended up controlling who?

Every time, I warned you,

You’d say it doesn’t matter.

but you will see….

You are drowning in your Money,

There is not a soul,

Just a robot.

You never come to dinner,

Your Kids and your Wife barely see you.

They warned you, but you didn’t listen,

Now the worst will come, and you will feel it.

As you watch her pack her stuff,

Good memories and Life blow away.

Those confused and worried kids,

They wanted their Dad to play.

When they left

You realized what is The Matter of Life,

But it’s too late.

You’ve become depressed,

Your feelings destroyed your business.

You feel hopeless.

Power is great, you are successful

But, is it successful feeling Lonely?

About the Poet

Juliana Isabelle Cabán Dávila was born on January 31st, 2007, at the Perea Hospital in Mayagüez, Puerto Rico. She is in the 8th grade. Her interests are English pop music, karate and soccer, and she also likes writing and creating stories. To be honest, Juliana got inspired to write “The Matter of Life” poem by an idea she got while she was resting on her grandmother’s sofa. She has a lot of thoughts in her head, not only problems and situations she has faced in her life, but also about other people’s life and points of views. She completely understands those problems even if she hasn’t faced them.
