Spanish Conquest

Grade: 10

The Spaniards came from distant lands
With galleons and weapons
But no one could imagine,
the Tainos would perish.

Borikén, lively and plentiful island
Pristine waters and white sands
with its mountains so grand.

Taino’s were a passive people
Protectors of the land
Atabey loved them so,
their kindness was so grand.

The Taino’s were quite happy
until they arrived
and took away their joy
leaving them deprived.

The Tainos were decided
Caciques were inspired,
the Spaniards lit the fire
stealing all their desires.
