Our Black Flag

Jimmy Carrero
Grade: 12

55 San José street.
A flag with a meaning so bittersweet.
All who came saw a feat,
but those who stayed felt defeat.

Even though there was a PROMISE,
even though they had a plan,
we all knew they weren’t honest.
They’d just stick it to the man!

A fateful night then,
four came along
Even though they did not belong.
And on this night came into existence,
the Puerto Rican symbol of resistance!

From this night on we stated:
“We’ll never again be sedated!”
We’ll never let them drag
Through corruption, our black flag!
